Cheques

Receiving money against a cheque is convenient

  • The person who pays you by cheque only needs to have your first name and surname
  • A perfect alternative to international transfer

You can have your cheques paid at a SEB bank unit in euros and foreign currencies:  Australian, US and Canadian dollars, British pounds, Swiss francs, Czech, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish crowns, Polish zloty and Japanese yen.

Starting from 1 September 2014, cash transactions in JPY, AUD, CAD and CZK will not be executed by SEB.

The SEB Bank cashes (pays) cheques issued by foreign banks as well as pension cheques and money orders.

To have your cheque paid in cash, visit a specified  SEB bank unit and present:

  • Your personal identity document
  • A written cheque
  • A special application form completed at the bank

The presented cheque must contain the following information:

  • cheque recipient (who is the only one authorised to receive the amount specified on the cheque)
  • Currency and amount (in numbers and words)
  • cheque issuance date
  • cheque issuance location
  • Signature of the cheque issuer

The amount provided on the presented cheque is credited to your SEB bank or account tied to a payment card account without changing the currency in three to four weeks. The time it takes to transfer money to you depends on the type and currency of the cheque.

A cheque does not guarantee money disbursement, therefore, we recommend our customers accepting cheques only from trustworthy individuals. Please note that you are taking the risk of a cheque drawer’s reliability. Even if money is disbursed, you will have to refund relevant full amount to SEB bank in case a corresponded bank announces your cheque insolvent or dishonoured and, if your account balance is insufficient, the bank will anyway claim a refund.

Our bank is not responsible for the correctness of cheque details or actions of other banks, or any other circumstances beyond the control of the bank resulting in a loss for the cheque recipient.
